The Gerogerigegege (1993) Endless Humiliation 3/24/2008

Named from the Japanese words for vomiting (gero), diarrhea (geri) and the sound of doing both of those things simultaneously (gegege), the Gerogerigegege has been described by its creators as the "Japanese ultra shit band." The most idealized, the peak end point of the vomit-shit-noise aesthetic; Plato's vomit-shit-noise band, if you will. They've amassed a sizable discography across the spectrum of experimental music, sometimes abrasive and sometimes not, sometimes adhering to more conventional rock song structures and sometimes ignoring them completely. The only real constants are shit, vomit, and the band's trademark senzuri (male masturbation). There used to be a video on youtube of a performance in which one member of the band played drums while another screamed into the microphone with a vacuum cleaner attachment hooked onto his dick, but unfortunately it appears that this has been removed.

1993's Endless Humiliation is one of the more controlled pieces in the Gerogerigegege catalog, a disturbing ambient work built around field recordings of a drunk, homeless, probably demented man talking to himself (in Japanese) for an hour, augmented by piano and other effects. Sounds like a typical high-concept noise-art failure, but surprisingly it actually works pretty well and I think I prefer it to their more punk albums. You don't have to listen to dudes jack off on record, at least. A psychedelic journey to the center of the human spirit.

You have to express more your opinion to attract more readers, because just a video or plain text without any personal approach is not that valuable. But it is just form my point of view
